Accessibility is a must-have functionality in Digital Learning

Numbers are still climbing ! Between 20 and 40% of children (depending of sources) have been recognized having reading difficulties. And not to say with the writing as well…
The reasons are very complex and the handicap can evolve, but more and more children suffer from those difficulties or handicap.

Helping the Dys

The most current handicap is covered by the scientific term “Dyslexia”.
To help the children having this type of handicap, we must have the capacity of changing the text they are reading.
At the first level, they need to have the facility of Zoom in-and-out the size of the text, enlarge the space between the words and the space between the lines.
At a second level, they must have the choice to select another font, for example a Dyslexic one (OpenDyslexic), and switch between Night and Day mode.
And they need to have their settings stored in order to have the same custom display each time they open a new text.

Another current handicap is the “Dyspraxia”.
For the children having such handicap, we must help them follow the lines they are trying to read.
A way to do that is to color the lines. But the right lines on the display of their choice, whatever the display is (PC, Tablet, Mobile), and that’s another challenge!
The best display, proven by scientific studies, are the 3 color lines (Blue, Green, Red; in that order) with a large Arial font size, or the 2 lines (first one with a gray background, second one with a white background).

How to meet the demand?
